  • Another Lesson from Esther

One thing that really struck me about Esther's actions was how deliberate and patient she was in her intervention.  I remember being surprised the first time I read her story that the moment her husband gave her permission to speak that she didn't spill the entire story right there.  I was surprised again when, after feeding her husband and Haman, Esther requested their presence at a second meal and chose that evening to reveal her heritage and the depth of influence of Haman's plot.

Esther deserves credit for being so deliberate and cunning in her strategem.  She probably learned this sort of thing living in the harem with all those women, watching their machinations play out.

I really need to become more like her!  It runs among the women of my family to be impetuous and rash, to decide on things too quickly.  Fortunately, God has blessed us with men who are the exact opposite...but aside from my father, I don't have such a man yet.  And more unfortunately, I don't always listen to Dad when he tells me to slow down and think about something...and that "Dad" can include both my earthly and heavenly father!

If I want something now...I go after it and get it now.  Keeghan was one such impulsive decision, the best one I ever made...though I didn't think so in the beginning.  Just as I think Kai is mistake right now; perhaps like Keeg, he'll prove to be a huge blessing one day.  I should have waited before bringing a bird home, but in the grander scope of the Kingdom, Kai's purchase only hurt my bank account and my home's floor plan.  If it took a $500 purchase to teach me a lesson in not making rash decisions, I'll consider it a bargain.

It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.  Proverbs 19:2, NIV

i think that sometimes impulses like this does have its place but in no way really changes the Sovereignty of God's Providence... though i think there are some things that are not wise when impulsive choices are made... but more or less... i think that whether it was Keeg or Kai... they may have a purpose in your life.... but I don't know really....

i kinda know what it means to be impulsive though and I do know that I need to be guided by wisdom alot more than impulse...

wanna grab coffee one of these days?

I try to seek the Lord's guidance in everything that I do, however I sometimes make decisions at the spur of moment.  Most likely these decisions based on impulse have their origins in our flesh.  Just last week, I made an impulse decision to eat at a nice restaurant, not because I planned it, but because I "felt" that I deserved it at the time.  Was it a bad decision?  Probably not, but we are also called to have "self-control."
